Plan your transport
Show both the shape and the existing packaging in your request. Hollow sections, thin projections, handles and irregular contours are important pointers for preparation. For series that look alike, a numbered overview helps; list loose lids or bases explicitly. Agree who prepares the packaging – the artist, the gallery or your team – and who takes over and checks the individual parts at destination.
Ceramics in exhibitions and hospitality
For hotel lobbies, restaurants and exhibitions, ceramic objects are often taken straight to their place and unpacked there. Clarify whether the packaging then stays on site, is stored or taken away. For a later return, it helps if the original material is still available.
Photos before sealing
A photo of each object before packing and a photo of the sealed crate with its number make assignment at destination simple. Existing firing or glaze features that might look like damage should be visible in the photos. That avoids misunderstandings at handover.
What matters
- Describe thin projections, handles and loose parts
- Link related parts in a numbered overview
- Assign responsibility for packaging
